The Gospel from Adam’s time

December 15, 2018

It will positively impact your theology of God to know that in all generations of human being (from Adam), the Gospel has always been one which is the good news of God’s freely given provision of salvation from sins and offering of son-ship through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to everyone that believes. God has always planned that salvation would be made available and received by faith only in the perfect sacrifice of Jesus via the route of his death, burial, resurrection and glorification.
The same Gospel (then as promise of what would be made available since Christ has not actually died) was what was preached to Adam and recorded for our learning in figurative expression in the book of Moses.
In the Epistles we see it clearly that the Gospel has always been communicated to the earlier generations.
Hebrews 4:1-6 confirms this truth that Gospel of the promise of Christ(or provision for us now) was preached to earlier generations by pointing our attention to the new creation plan in the figuratively presented record of physical creation we have in Genesis.
In this Hebrews we see that what expected of them (like us now) was to believe in the good news of God’s plan of provision made available as plan even before the falling of Adam.
In the same Hebrews we saw the “Rest” in the true context of Salvation of God for man.
Hebrews 4:1-6 (KJV)
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
This same gospel was preached to Abraham. Christ testified to this saying Abraham saw my days and rejoiced (John 8:56) Abraham heard that God is going to justify the ungodly by faith in what Jesus is going to do and believed. This result of his faith qualified or justified him for salvation to come.
Romans 4:1-5 (KJV)
1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness
